Please help final on MondayA single slit is illuminated with 660nm light, and theresulting diffraction pattern is viewed on a screen 2.3 m away a) If the linear distance between the first and thesecond dark fringes of the pattern is 12 cm, what is the width ofthe slit?
b) if the slit is made wider , will the distance between thefirst and second dark fringes increase of decrease? Please help final on Monday
a) If the linear distance between the first and thesecond dark fringes of the pattern is 12 cm, what is the width ofthe slit?
b) if the slit is made wider , will the distance between thefirst and second dark fringes increase of decrease?
Explanation / Answer
a) find the width of the slit w.xm = mL/w
x2 - x1 = (2 - 1)L/w= L/w
w = L/(x2 - x1) =1.265*10-5 m
b) from x2 - x1 = L/w
if w is increased, x2 - x1 willdecrease.
