Question
On your first day of work you are asked to calculate the speedof a geosynchronous satellite about to be launched and the orbitalheight above the Earth's surface the satellite must orbit. how do the speed of this geosynchronous satellite compare with thespeed of the Space Station that orbits at an average altitude of200km above the Earth's surface? Explain. I am not sure what this question is even asking for, or whereto start? On your first day of work you are asked to calculate the speedof a geosynchronous satellite about to be launched and the orbitalheight above the Earth's surface the satellite must orbit. how do the speed of this geosynchronous satellite compare with thespeed of the Space Station that orbits at an average altitude of200km above the Earth's surface? Explain. I am not sure what this question is even asking for, or whereto start?Explanation / Answer
Height of geosynchrouns satellite h = 36000 km
Distance of the geosynchrouns satellite from centerof the earth r = R + h =
r = 6400 km + 36000 km
= 42400 km
Distanc of the space station from center of the earth r ‘= R = 200 km
r’ = 6400 km + 200 km = 6600 km
