Question

This is another physics question on Gordon rule Q.#2 (a)Will the acceleration of car be the same when the cartravels around a sharp curve at a constant 60km/h as when ittravells a gentle curve at the same speed? please explain in greatdetail. (b)Describe the energy transformations that take place when askier starts sking down a hill but after a time is brought to restby striking a tree. (c)Why is it important to" follow through" when hitting a golfball or baseball? Use any principal of physics to explain youranswer. Explanation / Answer

a) Look at it this way. Acceleration is a measure of how quicklyyou change velocity. Velocity is a vector, encompassing both speedand direction. When you go around a sharp curve, you are changingvelocity much more rapidly than when you go around a gentle curve.By definition, this is a higher acceleration. You could also apply the formula for circular motion a=v^2/r wherea is acceleration (not force), v is velocity, and r is the radius. When the radius is smaller and the velocity is the same, theacceleration is larger. This acceleration acts on the object in adirection toward the center of the arc (not away from it), whichmakes it centripetal (not centrifugal). c) It is important to follow through correctly after the ball ishit, because this is where the power and accuracy of the shot comesfrom. So it is worthwhile working on this part of the golf game.
