Question
Answer each of the following questions (1 a-d) as being either TRUE or FALSE by writing a T for TRUE or an F for FALSE in the space provided.
1a) 3’-5’ exonuclease activity of DNA polymerase is the cell’s only way to repair mismatched bases in a DNA molecule. __________
1b) Humans have the single most complex genomes of any living organism. __________
1c) Metacentric chromosomes have centromeres located roughly in the middle of the chromosome. __________
1d) The maternally inherited X chromosome is always the one inactivated during X-inactivation. __________
Explanation / Answer
1. False, though 3' - 5' exonucleases activity of DNA polymerase is the mismatch repair by excising and replacing the wrongly paired nucleotides, there is specific proteins called Mut proteins which are MutS,MutH,MutL, HexA etc by forming complex and repair by excising and polymerizing to form new nucleotide strand. So 5-3' exonucleases activity not only mechanism to treat mismatch DNA strands.
2) yes its TRUE, humans are highly evolved genome of the existed living organisms.
3) True, if the centromere is at centre so it proucs two eual halves hence it is called metacentric, it forms V shape in Metaphase
4) False, maternal X chromosome and Paternal Y chromosome are active , so it is not always inactivated, but it shows dominance characteristic feature
