13. 112 points | Previous Answers FRKestenCP1 4.P.076. My Notes Two blocks 1 and M2 are connected by a mass ess string that passes over a massless pulley figure below. equal to 32°. Friction can be ignored in this problem. 2 which has a mass of 12 kg rests on a ong a pof angle M2 (a) Find the value of M1 for which the two blocks are in equilibrium (no acceleration) 6.36 (b) If the actual mass of M1 is 7 kg and the system is allowed to move, find the acceleration of the two blocks. X m/s2 (c) In part (b) does M2 move up or down the ramp? up down (d) In part (b), how far does block M2 move in 2 s? .66Explanation / Answer
Forces parallel to the slope = M2*g*sin32
(b) So, the upward force, F = M1*g - M2*g*sin32 = 7*9.81 - 12*9.81*sin32 = 6.29 N
So, the accleration of the two blocks = F/M2 = 6.29 / 12 = 0.523 m/s^2
(d) Distance moved by the block M2 in 2 sec -
s = 0 + 0.5*0.523*2^2 = 1.05 m
