Question
Part A A car in stop-and-go traffic starts at rest, moves forward 22 m in 8.0 s, then comes to rest again. The velocity-versus-time plot for this car is given in the figure(Figure 1) What distance does the car cover in the first 4.0 seconds of its motion? Express your answer using two significant figures Figure 1 1of 1 Submit My Answers Give Up Incorrect; One attempt remaining; Try Again Part B What distance does the car cover in the last 2.0 seconds of its motion Express your answer using two significant figures 6 Time (s) Mv AnswersGive UpExplanation / Answer
the distance travelled is the area under the V-t curve, so add up each area:
22 = (1/2)* V*(4-0) + V*(6-4) + (1/2)*V*(8-6)
22 = 2V + 2V + V
V = 22/5 = 4.4m/s
a) (1/2)*(4.4)*(4-0) = 8.8 m
b) (1/2)*(4.4)*(8-6) = 4.4 m
