Question

A black hole is the result of a massive object that is so massive its gravitational field prohibits photons from escaping True False If you throw a baseball while you are standing in a row boat, what happens? The ball moves, but the boat does not The boat moves, but the boat does not The boat and the bal move the same amount. The boat moves away from the ball but not as much as the ball moves A mass is bouncing on the end of a spring with a period T when measured by a ground observer. What would the period of oscillation be (as measured by the same observer) if the mass and spring were moving past the ground observer at a speed of 0.80 c? 0.44 T 0.60 T 1.0T 1.7T Noise cancellation, noise reduction, white noise, is the result of? Destructive interference Constructive interference Rarefaction Condensation

Explanation / Answer

Question 1) True.

Particles (whether light or matter) want to travel along straight lines, but when space is curved these become bent: they instead follow curving paths which we describe as the effect of gravity. Black holes have very high curvature, beyond a certain point (known as the event horizon), all straight lines are curved such that they point inwards towards the black hole. There is no direction you can go that will take you outside the event horizon.

I hope it helps!
