Moment of Inertia Quiz

Please refer to http://www.physics.qc.edu/files/543 for answers for procedure questions, .

1. What quantity is represented by the slope of the linear graph in procedure 2? (Please refer to http://www.physics.qc.edu/files/543 )

a. the moment of inertia of the rod without the masses

b. the mass of the rod

c. the mass of both sliding masses

d. the mass of a single sliding mass

2. Which correctly describes the tension in the string as the mass accelerates downward? (Please refer to http://www.physics.qc.edu/files/543 )

a. T < mg

b. T = mg

c. T > mg

Explanation / Answer

Question 2:

Let us suppose the tension in the string is T and force due to gravity that is (Weight) is acting downward. As two forces acting in that case. one is upward (Tension) and one is downward (mg). As mentioned in the question that mass accelerates downward i.e. its moving downward hence the downward force (mg) is greater than tension (T).

therefore, the option a is correct ( T < mg)

Question 1:

for question one graph is not there , just provide the graph then i will tell you the answer. whether it is graph between w or t? if it is graph between w and t then angular acceleartion is represented by the slope of the graph and by indirectly moment of inertia
