None of the above The position vs. time of a mass oscillating on a spring without damping is shown in the graph. At the time labeled to, 5. a. The velocity and acceleration are both 0 b. The velocity is zero and the acceleration is c. The velocity is negative and the d. The velocity is zero and the acceleration is e. The velocity is negative and the acceleration is positive negative negative acceleration is zero -A positive 6. A mass oscillates on a horizontal spring with a maximum cn d of m / If th spring constant is

Explanation / Answer

For the acceleration of the body under oscillation, two things are important -

(I) Acceleration of the body is directly proportional to its displacement. Means, maximum displacement => maximum acceleration

(II) Acceleration is always directed towards equilibrium position.

In the graph show, it is very clear that velocity = 0 at that point. And, acceleration is maximum and positive value.

Therefore, option (d) is the correct answer.
