Question
A ray enters right-angle optical glass prism parallel to its base as shown in the figure. What is a maximum angle theta at the base of the prism, for which the ray experiences total internal reflection in the prism? The refraction index of glass is n = 1.54. An object of 3 cm height is placed 60 cm away from a 40-cm-focal length concave mirror. a) Find the distance between the image and the mirror. b) What is the height of the image? c) Is the object upright or turned over? Explain your answer. (The answer without explanation will not be given any credit.)Explanation / Answer

a)
do = object distance = 60 cm
f = focal length = 40 cm
di = image distance
using the mirror equation
1/f = 1/do + 1/di
1/40 = 1/60 + 1/di
di = 120 cm
b)
hi = image height
ho = object height = 3 cm
using the equation
hi/ho = - di/do
hi/3 = - (120)/60
hi = 6 cm
c)
The object is turned over.
for a concave mirror , if do > f , then the image formed is inverted and real
