Question

A circuit consists of a 10-volt battery, a 400-ohm resistor, an Ammeter and wire sufficient to complete one simple and closed path. Current flows and is measured by the Ammeter. While current continues to flow, without breaking open the circuit at any point, a glove-wearing technician very unwisely but carefully hooks a 400-ohm resistor into the circuit-clipping its two ends to two locations on opposite ends of the 400-ohm resistor already there. Once the insertion is complete, the Ammeter displays a higher value for current. According to its chemical composition and to related data collected for its frame of reference, the star called Betelgeuse is understood to emit a signature portion of its light at frequency 4.99 times 10^14 Hz. Measured and analyzed on Earth, however, the light frequency is found to be more like 5.02 times 10^14 Hz. A thin column of light, with a wavelength of approx. 9 times 10^-7 meters, is split through two tiny nearby slits and hits a screen on the other side of a laboratory. A pattern of alternating light and dark bands is seen on the screen. A light band prominently occupies the center of the pattern, light band prominently occupies the center of the pattern, equidistant from the two slits.

Explanation / Answer

When another resistor is attached in parallel the net resistance becomes half = 400/2 = 200 ohms

Now I = V/R = 10/200 = 0.05 A

Hence answer is 0.05A
