CO_2 comprises 0.05 percent (1/20 of 1 %) by weight of the atmosphere (see table 1). What is the weight of CO_2 in tonnes in the atmosphere? Answer: World CO_2 emission from deforestation and burning of fossil fuel exceeds 7.7 billion tonnes per year and is increasing. What percentage of the total amount of CO_2 in the atmosphere (calculated in Question 5) is 7.7 billion (7.7 times 10^9) tonnes.

weight of Co2 =0.05% x entire atmospheric weight

( entire atmospheric weight has already been calculated but not mentioned here. From reference, weight of entire atmospheric weight in tonnes = 5.148 x 1018 kg x /1000 kg/ton = 5.148 x 1015 tonne)

=0.05% x  5.148 x 1015 = 2.574 x 1012 Tonne
