Question
To give you some experience with interfence of waves in 2D, go to the simulation app, Multiple slit diffraction to perform a few tasks. (You have to download the app.)
When you run the app you get a description window and a simulation window. It looks something like the figure shown below. This shows both what the pattern looks like and, on top of it, a graph of the intensity. Uncheck "Envelope" at the bottom right in order to just look at the pattern.
1. When the program comes up it shows a situation where the slit separation is 100 microns and the wavelength is 0.4 microns (400 nanometers). Set y (the slider on the bottom that sets the scale of the screen on which the fringes are viewed) equal to 0.10. Suppose that this means that the width shown in the simulation (left to right) is 0.1 m (10 cm). Find the distance between the slits and the screen.

Explanation / Answer
we know in double slit experiment
d*y/D = n*lambda
d = 100 x 10^-6 m
y = 0.2 m
D = d*y/n*lambda
D = 25 m
