Shown below is a vertical cross-section of a Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) transect. The area is underlain by a granite whose upper surface dips at 45degree. Above the granite lie, from top to bottom, a sand (2m thick), a shale (2m thick), and a clay layer. A 40 cm diameter metal pipe lies perpendicular to the cross-section with its center buried lm down. The dielectric constants of the granite, sand, shale, and clay are 5, 8, 16, and 35, respectively. Four locations for the GPR unit are shown below; these positions are measured from the granite outcrop. Calculate the arrival times of all reflections seen at all four stations. Ignoring the pipe, calculate the reflection magnitudes for the pulses in part a.Explanation / Answer
