1 WARM-UP QUESTIONS Homework 14 You must show all work to receive credit. Write in a clear and organized manner; unclear work will net receive credit. 1 Warm-up Questions Anita is running to the right with a speed of 6.0 m/s, as shown in the figure. Balls 1 and 2 are thrown toward her by her friends (standing still on the ground). As measured by Anita, both balls are approaching her at a speed of 11 m/s 6.0 m/s You may assume all the motions are com- pletely horizontal. a) According to her friends, what is the magnitude and direction of the velocity of ball 1 (61)? b) According to her friends, what is the magnitude and direciton of the velocity of ball 2 (62)Explanation / Answer
A)
Ball 1 velocity - 6 m/s = 11 m/s
Ball 1 velocity = 17 m/s , since Anita`s already in motion, from her reference point the ball is going at a speed of 11m/s. She is moving in the same direction of the ball, and if it was to be seen faster than her own speed, then the ball must have had a higher speed in the beginning = 17m/s.
B)
The opposite for ball2 +6 m/s = 11m/s.
Ball2 = (11-6) m/s.= 5 m/s
Since she`s running against it.
