Explanation / Answer

Given,

Q = -3 x 10^-6 C ; r = 6.8 cm ; rho = 7.35 x 10^-4

r = 9.3 cm

volume of the cavity will be:

V = 4/3 pi (R^3 - r^3)

the charge on the cavity will be:

Q = rho V = rho 4/3 pi (R^3 - r^3)

Q = 7.35 x 10^-4 x 4/3 x 3.14 (0.093^3 - 0.068^3) = 1.51 x 10^-6 C

Qtot = -3 x 10^-6 + 1.51 x 10^-6 = -1.49 x 10^-6 C

E = k Qtot/d^2

E = 9 x 10^9 x 1.49 x 10^-6/0.093^2 = 1.55 x 10^6 N/C

Hence, E = 1.55 x 10^6 N/C
