rev 4.0 Physics 8B Part 2: Electromagnetic Induction 1) Faraday's and Lenz's Laws Lab 3- Electric Motors & Generators mA in ammeter Connect the large wooden framed coil to the multimeter (set to read mode) as sh own. Only one turn of the coil is shown, but that is sufficient to tell which I is wrapped. Attached as shown, a positive reading on the ammeter way the coi CLOCKWISE around the coil. Hold the bar magnet outside the coil with the BLUE end facing the coil as shown. means current came out of the coil's red plug, i.e. current was COUNTER- mA blacked red blue Coil 300 mA COM a) Move the magnet into the coil. Is there a current induced in the coil .As the magnet is held stationary outside the coil? . As the magnet is moving into the coil? .As the magnet is held stationary inside the coil? b) For the period of time that there is a current induced through the coil, find the direction (CW or CCW) of the current in the coil?Explanation / Answer
a. as the magnet is moved into the coil, the emf is induced when
-> the magnet is moving into the coil
b. lets say the blue end of the magnet is the south pole ( red generally means north)
hence
from lenz' law
induced current is clockwise in direction
c. when we move the magneit out of the coil
emf is induced when
-> the magneit is movig out of the coil
d. in this case rthe current is counter clockwise in direction
