Question

om/myctfitemiview Problem 4.03 ) 2019 Find the honizontal component of the force P Your answer should be positive if the force is to the right, negative if the force is to the left Constants A man is dragging a trunk up the loading ramp of a mover's truck. The ramp has a slope angle of 200 and the man puils upward with a force P of magnitude 375 N whose direction makes an angle of 30 0 with the ramp (See the figure (Figure 1)) Subm Figure 1 of1 Part B Find the vertical component of the force P Your answer should be positive the force is upward, negative-the force is downward Submit

Explanation / Answer

Since the ramp is angled at 20° with the ground, and the force is angled 30° with the ramp, the force is angled =20°+30°=50° with the ground. The horizontal and vertical components of the force can be computed by:

Horizontal component of force Fx = Fcos

Vertical component of force Fy = Fsin

Where F = 375N and = 50°.

=> Fx = Fcos = 375cos(50°) = 241.05N.

=> Fy = Fsin = 375sin (50°) = 287.27N.

Therefore the horizontal component of force is 241.05N and the vertical component of force is 287.27N
