n1939 or 1940, Emanuel Zacchini took his human-cannonball act to an extreme: After being shot from a cannon, he soared over three Ferris wheels and into a net (see the figure). ss rne that he is launched with a speed of 27 m/s and at an angle of57 (a Treat na himas a partide, aculate his de sane ser he ist nieel , r he e chad naa nam eight over the middle wheel, by how much did he clear it? (c) How far from the cannon should the net's center have been positioned (neglect air drag)? Om 16m 3.0m Net (a) Number 17.5315 10.097974

Explanation / Answer

(a) lets find time taken by ball to reach the first tower.

in horizontal, t = 20 / (27 cos57) = 1.36 sec

In vertical,

y = v0y t + ay t^2 / 2

y = (27 sin57)(1.36) + (-9.8 x 1.36^2 / 2)

y = 21.7 m

clearance = 21.7 - 16 = 5.73 m

(B) Hmax= (v0 sin57 )^2 / 2g

= (27 sin57)^2 / (2 x 9.8)

= 26.2 m

clearance = 26.2 - 16 = 10.2 m

(C) in vertical,

R = v0^2 sin(2 x 57) / g

R = 68 m
