Question
(b) (10 points) The figure at right shows a region of space with electric field lines drawn in. The lines enter from the left and exit rightward. Three regions are indicated below the lines: regions I, II and III i) Are there any isolated electric charges in any of these regions? If there are charges, what are their signs and where are they. Explain (ii) In which region is the electric field most uniform. Explain (iii) In which of the three regions is the largest electric field present? Explain.Explanation / Answer
(i) yes, there are isolated charges in the (II) represented by two black dots. As the field lines terminate at those points which means they are -ve charge.
(ii) The electric field is most uniform in the region (I) as there is no change in the density of field lines.
(iii) Largest field is present in the region (II) as density of field line is highest.
