How much head start should you give him in order to have a tie race over 100 m? 2. A hockey puck moving at 32 m/s slams through a wall of snow 35 cm thick. It emerges moving at 18 m/s. Assuming constant acceleration, find (a) the time the puck spends in the snow and (b) the thickness of a snow wall that would stop the puck entirely 3 8Explanation / Answer
1.
Vi = speed of me = 9 m/sec
Vb = speed of brother = Vi/120%
Vb = 9/1.2 = 7.5 m/sec
distance traveled = 100 m
time taken by me = ti = 100/9 = 11.11 m/sec
time taken by my brother , tb = 100/7.5 = 13.33 m/sec
Extra time given to brother = 13.33 - 11.11 = 2.22 sec
So brother should start 2.22 sec before me,
then distance traveled by brother in that time will be head start
Head start = 7.5*2.22 = 16.65 m
Brother should be given a head start of 16.65 m
