PLEASE ANSWER ALL OF THE QUESTIONS IF YOU KNOW THEM. IN THE PAST I'VE GOTTEN WRONG ANSWERS WHICH RUINED MY GRADE. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!
1.) The Wein displacement law was determined experimentally, but can be derived by differentiating Planck's radiation law to get maximum wavelength emitted by a black body. The average temperature of the surface of the Earth is 288K while the average temperature of the surface of the Moon is 250K.
a.) use the wein displacement law to determine lambdamax, v, v with squiggly line at top, and E photon for radiation emitted at the maximum for both the Earth and the Moon.
b.) in what region(s) of the electromagnetic spectrum is radiation found?
c.) The earth and the moon are approximately the same distance from the sun. can you think of a reason why the surface of the earth is warmer than the surface of the moon?
Explanation / Answer
According to Wein displacement law
lambdapeak * T = 2.898 * 10-3
a) maximum wavelength at Earth = (2.898 * 10-3)/(288)
= 1.006 * 10-5 m
maximum wavelength at Moon = (2.898 * 10-3)/(250)
= 1.159 * 10-5 m
Ephoton at Earth = (6.63 * 10-34 * 3 * 108)/(1.006 * 10-5)
= 1.97 * 10-20 J
Ephoton at Moon = (6.63 * 10-34 * 3 * 108)/(1.159 * 10-5)
= 1.716 * 10-20 J
b) electromagnetic spectrum radiation is found in infra red region .
c) At any time, around 60% of the Earth’ surface is shaded from the Sun by clouds, reflecting around 20% of the Sun’s energy straight back into space. So, the surface of the earth is warmer than the surface of the moon .
