Question

oint charges of 6.0 mC and 4.0 mC are placed on an x axis, at x 8.0 m and x 16 m, respectively. What charge must be placed at x 24 m so that any charge placed at the origin would experience no electrostatic force? oint charges of 6.0 mC and 4.0 mC are placed on an x axis, at x 8.0 m and x 16 m, respectively. Explanation / Answer

since both are positively charged the other charge has to be negative

force by 6 uC and 4uC = force by charge at x = 24 cm

k*6*q / 8^2 + k*4 / 16^2 = k*q1*q / 24^2

q = 63 uC

so a charge of -63 uC should be placed at x = 24 m
