Question
A pilot drops an object from a plane flying horizontally at a constant speed. Neglecting air resistance, when the object hits the ground the horizontal location of the plane will be A behind the object. B be over the object. C be in front of the object. D depend on the speed of the plane when the object was released. The correct answer is B Over the Package. Can someone please explain to me WHY this is. I can't find a good explanation ANYWHERE. What to they even mean by "over"? Isn't that the same ting as in front, depending on how you look at it? HEEEEELLPPP
Explanation / Answer
B be over the object
Consider the motion of plane and the object along the horizontal direction only. when the object is released, the object has same velocity as that of the plane along the horizontal direction.
In projectile motion of object . there is no acceleration along the horizontal direction, hence the object continues to move at the speed the plane moves at .
that is why the plane will be over the package
