Question

A) A 24 cm tall object is placed in front of a concave mirror with a radius of 26 cm. The distance of the object to the mirror is 84 cm. Calculate the focal length of the mirror. 1.30×101 cm - answer

B) Calculate the image distance. (.1547 cm/-.1547 cm....70.57 cm...-.158 cm...24.55 cm are all not correct)

C) Calculate the magnification of the image (Remember, a negative magnification corresponds to an inverted image).

D) Calculate the magnitude of the image height.

Explanation / Answer

A)

R = radius oif curvature of mirror = 26 cm

f = focal length of concave mirror = R/2 = 26/2 = 13 cm

B)

do = object distance = 84 cm

di = image distance = ?

using the mirror equation

1/do + 1/di = 1/f

1/84 + 1/di = 1/13

di = 15.4 cm

c)

magnification is given as

m = - di/do = - 15.4 /84 = - 0.183

D)

ho = object height = 24 cm

hi = image height = ?

magnification is also given as

m = hi/ho

0.183 = hi/24

hi = 4.4 cm
