Using Google Earth, you can fly to Albuquerque and then along the river to find many examples. Many of the volcanoes are basaltic, but in places you will see huge caldera remnants. In fact, the city of Los Alamos lies atop thick ignimbrites. What causes the volcanism in the Rio Grande Valley, and why are there different kinds of volcanism? Look at the photo of the volcanic cluster. These occur in Santa Fe. Judging form the character of these volcanoes, would you say they are active? Why? T he chief cause of volcanoes in these regions is because of the tectonic changes taking place with time. the various layers of the earth slide along one another. there is an unstability in the earth below these region. Different kinds of volcanoes are because of more than one factor. there are different types of rocks that are present in this region. these rocks has different melting points. thus the type of volcanoes vary. also the temperature below the earth isnt the same everywhere. this too is a factor. Evaluation of the volcanic hazard can be done by marking the tectonic regions in a place first. also the seismograph is useful . use of satellite imaging is of great help.
