Question
So what do we think of Einstein and his theories? Do things make sense about the interchangeability of mass and energy?
As another point of discussion, you should have noticed that by the end of these videos we have discussed most of the topics that we covered during this course. You can see that physics is really complicated and we need to understand many different parts to - mechanics, force, momentum, energy, wave motion - in order to understand some of the most fundamental questions that humans have of the world around them.
I'm interested to know your thoughts on the class (as presented) and some feedback on these video choices.
Explanation / Answer
ok, this question is asking your point of view. Anyways, i never doubt theories of this fellow. and now a days
E=mc^2 is well proven.at the time, there was no macroscopic system in which this relation could be directly verified. The reason is simple... the conversion factor is too great, so that anything releasing enough energy to measure as mass is releasing so much energy that it destroys the system measuring it. So, for example, the mass change when you charge a battery is far too small to measure, while the mass change in an atomic bomb would be quite measurable... if you could contain it and measure the mass of the material products. Don't try that at home.
There are, however, many microscopic verification of this principle, from the fact that mass change in the matter involved in a nuclear reaction matches the energy released (this is quite measurable), or some of the other tests mentioned previously, and including the observed change in the inertia of particles moving a relativistic speeds, which exactly match the increase in their energy.
I don't think that there is anyone who seriously doubts these results... like the rest of special relativity it is as well established as anything can be.
and about your class videos, i hope you understand my contraints. how can i comment on them without watching them.
