Question
Lab 3: Series and Parallel Circuits This worksheet will use the PhET circuit simulator to explore the concepts of series and parallel circuit branches. The simulation can be found at: http://phet colorado.edu/simulations/sims.php?sim Circuit Construction Kit DC Only When you open the simulation, you will see a screen like this: Circuit Construction Kit (DC Only) 3.20) File Options Help Show values Grab a wire Tools O Small Light Bulb Advanced The items in the white box (where "Grab a wire" is pointing can be dragged over into the blue area to build a circuit. When you need to measure voltages and currents, you will need to click the boxes on the right next to "Voltmeter" and "Ammeter(s)." l. Create a circuit involving a 10v battery and a 50 light bulb. Insert an ammeter in series light bulb and a volt meter in parallel with the light bulb. Measure the current through the light bulb and the voltage drop across the light bulb and record your measurements.Explanation / Answer
1.) current in circuit = V/R = 10/5 = 2A
voltage drop = IR = 2*5 = 10 V
2.)
a.)net resistnace = 10+5 = 15 ohm
Current in circuit = V/R = 10/15 = 0.666A
b) Voltage drop across 5 ohm resistor = IR = 0.666*5 = 3.33 V
voltage drop across 10 ohm resistor = IR = 0.666*10 = 6.666V
c.)dimmer
