Teisserenc de Bort discovered the Stratosphere in 1900 with unmanned baloons. Below Stratosphere lies Troposphere but Mesosphere lies above it. Interface of Stratosphere with Troposphere is Tropopause and Stratosphere with Mesosphere interface is Stratopause.

Temperature decreases with altitude in Troposphere. Then again increases with altitude in Stratosphere. In Mesosphere, temperature again decreases with altitude and in the Thermosphere, temperature again increases with altitude. But temperature remains constant upto some height starting from the Tropopause, Stratopause and Mesopause i.e. near the base of Stratosphere, Mesosphere and Thermosphere respectively. Of these most pronounced is seen at the base of Stratosphere upto 9 km from its base.
