Question
The figure below a cross-sectional view of a cable. The center conductor is surrounded by a rubber layer, an outer conductor, and another rubber layer. In a particular application, in the inner conductor is I_1 = 1.20 A out of the page and the current in the outer conductor is I_2 = 3.16 A into the page. Assuming the distance d = 1.00 mm, answer the following. Determine the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field at point a. magnitude mu T direction Determine the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field at point b. magnitude mu T directionExplanation / Answer
Given that;-
(a)
inet = i1 = 1.20 A
r = d = 1.00 mm
B = u*inet / 2r
= 2*10^-7 * 1.20 / 0.001
= 240 micro T
The direction is pointing upward.
(b)
inet = i2 - i1
= 3.16 - 1.20 = 1.96 A
r = 2*d = 2.00 mm
B = u*inet / 2r
= 2*10^-7 * 1.96/ 0.002
= 196 micro T
The direction is pointing downwards.
