Question
A source transmitting a frequency f and wavelength (lambda) is traveling at speed V(S) toward a stationary observer. As a result, the observer perceives a change in the wave length of the source's frequency, describe by the equation seen below. Using that equation, find an expression for the frequency F' heard by the observer.
My Notes: I have the equation: F'1 = ((Vs-Vo)/(Vs)) F for an source of sound moving towards on observer. Please use this if it requires rearrangement. Please show all steps. Thanks.
Explanation / Answer
Given
Doppler effect
the apparent change in frequency heard by the observer due to relative motion betweent the source an dobserver
that is f' = f(v-v0/v_vs)
as the source approaching observer , the frequency increases so the formula for frequency is
f' = f(v -0/v_vs)
f' = f(v/v-vs) Hz
and ther relation between wavelength and frequency , speed of wave is
V = Lambda*f
f = V/Lambda
if v is constant then the wavelength and frequency are inversly proportional to each other.
