Question
Very much appreciated. I need help on these homework problems and I've visited my schools tutors but they're not confident in any of the help they give me and on some they just tried to "steer" me in the right direction and it wasn't helpful. I need this to study from to really understand this material. Very much appreciated. Explanation / Answer
y = m*lambda*R/a
R = distance between screen and slit
a = slit width
lambda = wavelength
for m = 1 and y = 24.2 cm
0.242 = 1*589*10^-9*0.66/a
a = 1.6*10^-6 m
for y = 0.212 , m = 1 and a = 1.6*10^-6 m
0.212 = 1*lambda*0.66/(1.6*10^-6 )
wavelength lambda = 514 nm <<<<<<--------answer
++++++
number of lines / cm = 1/a = 0.01/(1.6*10^-6) = 6250 <<<<<----------answer
