Question
Two narrow slits separated by 1 mm are illuminated by light of wavelength 580 nm, and the interference pattern is viewed on a screen 2.8 m away. Calculate the number of bright fringes per centimeter on the screen. (Do not round your answer to a whole number.)
Explanation / Answer
given
d = 1 mm
lamda = 580 nm
R = 2.8 m
fringe width, beta = lamda*R/d
= 580*10^-9*2.8/(1*10^-3)
= 0.001624 m
= 0.1624 cm
so, no of fringed per cm = 1/0.1624
= 6.16 fringes/cm
