Question
It takes bacteria 40 minutes to replicate their DNA and 20 minutes for septum formation and cell division. Some bacteria, however, have a doubling time that’s less than 60 minutes. How would the amount of DNA per cell differ for cells in Culture X and Culture Y? Culture X has a generation time of 30 minutes and Culture Y has a generation time of 100 minutes. Explain your answer in less than 40 words. Include which portion of the chromosome would be present in larger amounts (either the origin portion or the region farther away from the origin).
Explanation / Answer
In culture X , DNA is in more amount because of less generation time & there is a start of new DNA synthesis before the completion of pervious DNA synthesis so amount is more in X . Origin portion present in larger amont becuase of new synthesis of DNA chain before completion of previous DNA chain.
