Question
A transformer is known to step down an input voltage by a factor of 25. Assume that the transformer transmits electrical power through it with 100% efficiency. If 89kW of electrical is input to the primary coil at a current of 10.0 amps, what is the output current from the secondary coil? A transformer is known to step down an input voltage by a factor of 25. Assume that the transformer transmits electrical power through it with 100% efficiency. If 89kW of electrical is input to the primary coil at a current of 10.0 amps, what is the output current from the secondary coil?Explanation / Answer
Since the transformer has 100% efficiency
INput power = output power
V1*I1 = V2*I2
89000 = V2*I2
but given that V1*I1 = 89000
V1 = 89000/10 = 8900 V
V2 = 8900/25 = 356 V
then 89000 = 356*I2
current in the secondary coil is I2 = 89000/356 = 250 A
