Question
Name: Partners 1. From procedure A, summarize your data and describe the permeability of the different Lab S: Osmosis and Diffusion compounds through the membrand. 2. Graph the change in mass over time data you generated from table 2a and 2b, and attach them here. Compare the relative rates of diffusion. 3. Describe the effect of molecular weight and temperature on the rate of diffusion, based on your agar plates. 4. Draw the cells from part D before and after NaCI treatment -NaCI +NaCI aio clo0er together 47Explanation / Answer
It is not clear what are the questions to solve. Though solving the discussion problems.
6. Rate of diffusion will be faster in Beaker A which contains 5% glucose. Rate of diffusion depends on the kinetic energy of the molecules. In 5% glucose solution, the kinetic energy of the molecules are higer (Due to Brownian Motion). So the rate of diffusion will also be higher.
7. When the patient was admitted he was dehydrated, so rehydration was necessary to balance the water and salt level of the body. There are different types of intravenous fluids used to rehydrate the body. Normally saline is used in the hospital as it contains sodium and chlorine, so it replaces fluid which was lost from the body and prevents or corrects electrolyte imbalances in the body.
8. Single cell protists or Paramecium usually live in fresh water and survive there. In their body, they have cytoplasm consisting of a greater concentration of solutes than their surrounding medium. So they absorb water by osmosis thorugh their semipermeable membrane. However, inside thecell, the excess water is collected into a contractile vacuole which swells and expels water through a pore in the cell membrane.
