Question

A so,enoid 2.0 m long and 30 cm in diameter consists of 5000 turns of wire (primary). A 5 turn coil (secondary) with negligible resistance is wrapped around the solenoid and connected to a 180 ohm resistor. The solenoid current is given by I = I_0 sin cot where I_0 = 85 A, omega = 210 rad/s, and t is in seconds. Determine the magnetic field at the center of the solenoid (primary) at t = 1 ms. B) Determine the peak emf induced in the secondary loop. c)what is the current in the secondary coil when the primary coil currents is a maximum?

Explanation / Answer

We know that Magnetic Field B = mu0*nI

mu0= 4*pi*10^-7

n = N/L = 5000/2.0 = 2500

at time t=1 ms the current I =I0sinwt = 85sin(210*1/1000) =0.311 Amp

B = 4*pi*10^-7 *2500*0.311 =9.782 x 10^-4 T..........Ans.

(b) we know that

Es = Ep*Ns/Np

Ep= IR = 85*180 = 15300 V

Es = 15300*5/5000 = 15.3 V..........Ans.

(c) Current in secondary coil =Es/R =15.3/180 = 0.085 Amp..........Ans.
