In the figure a 140-turn coil of radius 5.00 cm and resistance 3.00 ohm is placed around a smaller diameter solenoid (d = 3.20 cm). The long solenoid in the figure has 220 turns per centimeter and carries a current of 1.40 A. The current in the solenoid is reduced to zero and then increased to -1.40 A in a time of 6.00 times I0^-2 s. What is the magnitude of the induced current in the outer coil while the solenoid current is being changedExplanation / Answer
Here ,
radius of solenoid , r = 3.2/2
r = 1.6 cm
number of truns in solenoid , n = 220 /cm = 22000 /m
Now , for the emf induced in the coil ,
emf = change in flux/time
emf = 140*pi *0.016^2 * u0 * 22000 * (1.4 - 0)/(6 *10^-2)
emf = 0.0726 V
current induced = emf/R
current induced = 0.0726/3
current induced =0.0242 A
the current induced in the coil is 0.0242 A
