Question
PLEASE SHOW YOUR WORK. THANK YOU.
When we are asked how much of single material we have there are three common ways to answer. We can give the mass (or weight), the volume or give the number of moles.
The specific heat capacity of Aluminum (AL) is 900 J/kg*K
The density of AL is 0.0027 kg/cm^3
The molar mass of AL is 0.02698 kg/mol
(A) How much energy is required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of AL 1°C? Energy =______ (For water it is 4186 J)
B) How much energy is required to raise the temperature of 1 cm3 of AL 1°C? Energy =______ (For water it is 4.186 J)
(C) How much energy is required to raise the temperature of 1 mole of AL 1°C? Energy = _____ (For water it is 75.41 J.)
Explanation / Answer
A) by the definition , the energy required by 1 kg AL toraise its temparature by 1 C is Specific heat capacity = 900 J/Kg*K
So the answer is 900 J
B) mass of 1 cm^33 is mass = density*volume = 0.0027*1 = 0.0027 kg
for 1 kg = 900 J
then 0.0027 kg needs 0.0027*900 = 2.43 J of energy
C) mass of 1 mole AL is 0.02698
then energy required is E = 0.02698*900 = 24.282 J
