10:54 PM Genetic Engineering.ppt Which would you use: Genomic vs. cDNA? You want to work with the DNA that encodes for a full-length protein, but know that it's easier to work with smaller lengths of DNA. a. You want to determine if a region of DNA between two open reading frames is important for gene regulation. b. C. You want to obtain DNA for a particular gene, but you have no idea at what stage the gene is expressed. d. You want to determine which stage of development a particular gene is expressed 5 Open With PrintExplanation / Answer
a. cDNA. cDNA is synthesised from mRNA which is translated into full lenght protein. Sequence of mRNA is usually shorter than the gene encoding it. Hence, cDNA will be used in the given process.
b. Genomic DNA. Regulatory can be determined by knowing the entire sequence of DNA. Hence, genomic DNA will be used.
c. Genomic DNA. Genomic DNA will be used as we dont know at what stage the DNA will be expressed into mRNA or protein which is necessary for synthesizing cDNA.
d. cDNA. Expression of particular gene can determined by the production of mRNA by that gene which in turn gives us the information about its expression in a cell.
