Question

Using a concave spherical mirror with a focal length of 20 cm and object that is upright whose height is 3cm tall. Determine the radius of curvature of the mirror. If the image appears 10 cm behind the mirror. How tall is the image? Is this image real or virtual, upright or inverted, and what is the distance object from the mirror? Height of image Type of image Object distance Upright or Inverted If the image is 50 cm in front of the mirror what is the magnification of the mirror? Also answer the following questions Magnification of the mirror Type of image Object distance Upright or Inverted If the image formed is has a height of 6cm and is upright determine the distant

Explanation / Answer

the radius of curvature = 2*f = 2*20 = 40 cm

mirror formuala

1/v+1/u = 1/f

1/+10 + 1 /u = 1/-20

u = -6.67 cm = object distance

m = -v/u = -10 / -6.67 = 1.5

this image is virtual height = 3*1.5 = 4.5 cm & upright

C

now v = -50

so from same formual we got

u = -33.33 cm = object distance

m = -v/u = -- 50 / -33.33 = -1.5 this is real image

height = 3*1.5 = 4.5 cm & inverted

D

h= 6 cm so m = + 2

m = -v/u = +2

v= -2u so

1/ -2u +1/u = 1/ -20

u = -10 cm or 10 cm .........answer
