Question
A toddler weighs 10kg and raises herself onto tiptoe (on both feet). her feet are 8cm long with each ankle joint being located 4.5com from the point where her feet contact the floor. while standing on tip toe:
a)what is the upward normal force exerted by the floor at the point where oe of the toddlers feet contact the floor?
b)what is the tension force in one of her achilles tendons?
c)what is the downward force exerted on one of the toddlers ankle joints?
Please show your work:) Thank you so much!
Explanation / Answer
a.) at equilibrium
The floor must support the toddler’s weight = 10 * 9.8
b.)
Tension = Force * sin
Each foot is supporting ½ of the weight of the toddler = 5 * 9.8
This is the force.
Her feet are 8 cm long with each ankle joint being located 4.5 cm from the point at which her feet contact the floor. 8 cm is the hypotenuse of the right triangle, and 4.5 cm is the height.
Sin = 4.5 ÷ 8
Tension = (5 * 9.8) * (4.5 ÷ 8)
T = 27.565 N
3.)
The ankle joint is supporting the weight which is above it 10*9.8 = 98 N N
