Question
Question 1/1 point 16 A geneticist crossed a lavender colored snapdragon flower with another Lavender colored flower. In the next generation she observed phenotypic proportions of 378 lavender 189 white flowers. Determine the most likely parental genetic cross to account for these proportions (this is your hypothesis), and analyze how well your hypothesis fits the data by performing Chi-square analysis (X2 chart below) Table 3.4 Critical values of the x2 distribution dt 0.995 0.975 0.5 0.1 1 0.000 00 016 ASS .706 3.841 5024 6.635 .79 2 0.010 0.051 0.2111386 4605 .991 7.378 9.210 10.597 11.345 12.438 13.2771480 9.236 11.07012832 15.086 16750 7815 9488 0.072 0.207 7.779 11.143 5 0412 0.831 1610 4.351 0.676 1237 2.204 348 10.645 12.592 14449 16812 18548 7 0.98 1690 2833 346 12.017 14067 16013 18475 20.278 1.344 2.180 3.490 7.344 13362 ISSO, 17.535 20.090 21.955 16.919 19.023 21.666 23.589 23.209 25.188 1.735 2.700 4168 343 14684 5.987 18.307 20.483 3816 5.578 10.341 1727519.675 21.920 24.725 26.757 13 3.565 009 7.042 12.340 19.812 22362 24.736 27.688 29.819 6262 8547 14.339 22.307 24.996 27.488 30.578 32.801 11 2.603 12 3074 46304 11340 18549 210262337 617 28300 14 4,075 5,629 7,99 13.339 21042368 26.119 29141 31.319 15 4.601 P probability: dt degrees of freedom. From the parental genetic cross you hypothesized, what phenotypic ratios do you expect in the 2nd generation? Question options a) Expected values of 9:3:3:1 in the 2nd generation b) Expected values of l:1:1:1 in the 2nd generation c) Expected values of 3:1 in the 2nd generation d) Expected values of 1:1 in the 2nd generation e) none of the above Question y /1 point 17Explanation / Answer
The observed number of flowers are 378 lavender and 189 white flowers.
To find the expected number the ratio is 3:1. So, 3/4*567= 425.25 and 1/4*567=141.75.
Chi square value = 20.98
Degree of freedom =2-1= 1 do in the table where the df= 1 and the probablity is 0.05.
the value on the table is less than calulated chi square value. This means hypothesis is rejected and the expected value is not co ordinating with observed value. So, this is not simple mendelian. The answer is none of the above.
