Question

BIO 332: BIOINFORMATICS Exercise 2: An Exercise on Sequence Alignment In the codes of life, mutation events are observed as substitution, insertion, deletion. The following are amino acid sequences of pancreatic ribonuclease from three different species. Establish homology manually and show manually and show your alignment, then answer the following questions. Given >SPECIES KESPAAMXFEROHNDSGSTSSSNPTYCNOMMKRRNMTOGWCKPVNTFVHEP >SPECIES 2 KESEANKFEROHMPSGSTSSSNPTYCHOMMKRPNMHTOGWCKPVNTPVHEP >SPECIES 3 KESEAMKGERQHMPSGSTSSNPTYCNOMMKRFNMTOGWCKPPVNTFVVHEP SHOW YOUR ALIGNMENT BELOW: Answer the following questions: 1. What is the percentage sequence similarity between Species 1 and Species 2? 2. what is the percent sequence similarity between species 2 and Species 3? 3. How many events of insertion and deletion do you observe in this alignment? 4. Which is more related to whom? Draw a hypothesis for the inferred relationship.

Explanation / Answer

1. Species 1 is quite closely related to species 2. Because we can see only some of the substitution, insertion and deletion has taken place.

2. When compared to species 1 and 2, species 2 and 3 have more percentage of similarities because the even of insertion, substitution and deletion is less than that of species 1 and 2.

3.When we take 1 and 2 species we can observe 2 deletion and 1 insertion. (I.e) 2 event of deletion is noted is the second species and 1 insertion is noted in the second species.

When we take 2 and 3 species 2 insertion and 1 deletion is noted..

When we take 1 and 3 species 4 deletion and 3 insertion is noted.

4. Species 2 and 3 is very closely related species because we can see only less insertion deletion and substitution when compared to species 1 and 3 and also 1 and 2...
