Question
I am trying to find acceleration in a Lab assignment I am working on. In the lab instructions my professor tells us the following regarding finding the acceleration:
"Newton's second law tells us that the acceleration, a, of the block down the plane (assuming that it is moving on an inclined plane) is a=g(sin*angle - ukcos*angle).
"Here, the angle is the inclination angle of the plane with respect to horizontal, uk is the coefficient of kinetic friction, and g is the acceleration due to gravity."
My angle is 29.1. The block is wood and so is the plane so my coefficient of kinetic friction would be 0.3.
I am getting a negative acceleration. What am I doing wrong?
Explanation / Answer
a=g(sin*angle - ukcos*angle)
a = 9.81(sin(29.1) - 0.3*cos(29.1))
a = 1.688 m/s^2
may be you are not considering uk
