Question
A state patrol station is located on a straight north-south freeway. A patrol car leaves the station at 9:00 a.m. heading north with position function s =f(t) that gives its location in miles t hours after 9:00 a.m. (see figure). Assume s is positive when the car is north of the patrol station
Find the average velocity of the car over the interval [1.75, 2.25] and Estimate the velocity of the car at 11:00 a.m. and determine the direction in which the patrol car is moving.
*****I know how to find the average velocity of the car of the interval but i DO NOT understand how to estimate the velocity of the car at 11:00 am. i know that its going to be at 2.0 but i dont know what to do from there. please show me all the steps and explanation. thank you!
40 30 20 E 10 s=f(t) 05 10 15 2 )1 2.3* 2.5 3.0' -20 30 Time (hours)Explanation / Answer
velocity is speed at t=2
so from graph car moves from +15 to -15 in 0.5 hours
So velocity = -30/0.5 = -60 mph
