ANSWER 1.

The peer-review process is the independent scrutiny of research by other members of distinguished research capability in the same field. This process is caried out before the submitted researched gets published. The main areas of consideration for these 'peers' is the impact or significance, the novelty or originality, and the viability ot validity.

The peer-review process is critical to the progression of science because:
1) It establishes the credibility of the research due for publication before widespread public disclosure, exposure and subsequent acknowledgement.
2) It gauges the holistic quality with which the entire study was conceived and designed, whilst assessing the methodology behind the research
3) Approval from peers and time-tested stalwarts adds integrity to the paper alowing other skeptics to trust and assimilate the paper into their own subject knowledge.
4) Multiple perusals by multiple experts also takes into account how relevant the finidings are results of the study/research are for the readers, and for the field at large.
