Explanation / Answer
1. The presence of glacial deposits can tell scientists that, if the continents have not moved, then this would suggest that an ice sheet extended from the south pole to the equator. This finally states that the ice flows from single central point which means continents that have them must have been located closer to one of the poles.
2. The glacial deposits provide evidence that pangaea (Supercontinent) existed. It was known that when glaciers move across the surface of the earth, they leave marks, grooves and also deposits on the rocks and in that area. From these glacials deposits we can trace the direction of ice movement. From this analysis the geologists stated that an ice age had occured a million years ago in the southern south america, southern africa, southern India, antartica and australia. Due to this these parts of the world are far away but when the Pangaea existed these areas are connected.
3. Wegener's idea was not accepted by the scientific community. He proposed that the continents had once been connected together in the form a single super continent and later drifted apart. His idea was not accepted because there is no satisfactory explanation to the forces or mechanisms that helped these continents to move far away from each other. Wegener stated that the continents plowed through the rocks of the ocean basins, many scientists didnot agree to this. They also considered that his statements are contradictory to the laws of physics.
