Explanation / Answer

Q1)

Answer- Levonogastrol is a synthetic steroid hormone analogue which causes limited gonadotropin secretion by pituitary. It inhibits LH hormone but not FSH.

Levonorgestrel is used as an emergency contraceptive or birth control, after unprotected sex or a failure of birth control process, it works by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary or preventing fertilization of the egg by sperm. It may also work by changing the lining of the uterus, to prevent development of a pregnancy.

Role of LH is to trigger ovulation and development of the corpus luteum, progesterone helps in regulating or maintaining the condition of the inner lining (endometrium) of the uterus.

Q21) Answer- True

Explanation - When the egg is released from the ovary, it goes to the fallopian tube. Where fertilization takes place by meeting of an egg with a sperm. Fertilization usually takes place in 12-24 hours after ovulation. After fertilization, the fertilized egg travels down the fallopian tube toward the uterus. Implantation, the attachment of the fertilized egg to the uterus takes place, around 9 days after ovulation/fertilization and the foetus continues to grow. In the uterus, the embryo implants or attaches itself into the endometrium. After implantation it secretes a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) which helps to maintain the pregnancy. To confirm pregnancy, this hormone is analysed in the blood/urine.

Q22) Answer- True

Explanation- Cancer causing HPVs induce cancer because two early gene products E6 and E7 alter the infected cells normal functioning.

HPV usually infects the epithelial cells. These cells are found in layers covering the inside and outside surfaces of the body, like skin, throat, genital tract, and anal opening.

When HPV enters an epithelial cell, the virus begins to make its own proteins which it encodes. Two of the proteins made by high-risk HPVs are E6 and E7, they interfere in the regular cell functions, that is to prevent the excessive growth. These two gene products alter the normal cell process of the infected cell and help the cell to grow in an uncontrolled manner and avoid cell death. As a result cancer occurs.

Q23) Answer- True

Explanation- When the egg is released from the ovary, it goes to the fallopian tube. Where fertilization takes place by meeting of an egg with a sperm. Fertilization usually takes place in 12-24 hours after ovulation. After fertilization, the fertilized egg travels down the fallopian tube toward the uterus. Implantation, the attachment of the fertilized egg to the uterus takes place, around 9 days after fertilizatio , and the foetus continues to grow, and during the developmental process post implantation of embryo, HCG is produced by embryo,  it's primary role is to maintain the functioning of corpus luteum, so that the corpus luteum can continue producing estrogen and progesterone. By maintaining the corpus luteum that surrounds the egg, HCG also maintains the lining of the uterus that is endometrium, which is necessary for the continuation of pregnancy. The embryo is completely dependent on the uterine lining till the placenta is fully formed, that is upto fourth month of pregnancy.
