Consider the system of capadtors shown in the figure below (C1 2.00 f, 6.00 the system of capacitors shown in the figure below (G 2.0n p , de-6.00. Explanation / Answer

a) C1 and 6 uF are in series

equivalent of these two is C' then

1/C' = 1/C1 + 1/6 = 1/2 + 1/6

C' = 1.5 uF

capacitor in the lower branch also have same arrangement.

so equivalent of these two will also be 1.5 uF

now two 1.5uF are in paralllel connection.

Ceq = 1.5 + 1.5 = 3uF ....Ans

b) Q = Ceq V = 3 uF x 90 V = 270 uC

this charge wil get divided in both brnaches and series capacitors have same charge.

so this will divided in half in both branches as branches have same capacitance.

so Q1 = Q2 = Q(on 6uF ) = Q (on 2uF) = 270/2 = 135 uC

c) V1 = Q1/C1 = 135 uC / 2 uF = 67.5 V

V2 = Q2/C2 = 135 / 6uF = 22.5 V

V (across 6uF) = 135 / 6uF = 22.5 V

V(across 2 uF) = 135 uC / 2 uF = 67.5 V
